New York by-way-of-Nebraska bassist, Steve Doyle, started off with the Hammond organ at an early age and eventually played piano and Fender Rhodes on the Omaha/Lincoln jazz scene. At the age of sixteen, he picked up both the electric and double bass and later went on to earn a BSE in music education at the University of Nebraska.

While in college, Steve focused on orchestral bass playing, alternative rock, jazz and performed publicly with the "Nebraska Jazz Orchestra", "Lincoln Symphony", "Sioux City Symphony", "Nebraska Chamber Orchestra", and was a regularly featured pianist at the Lincoln Hilton.

Now 39, with 14 years on the New York scene, Steve has performed with many internationally renown artists including Steve Slagle, Dave Stryker, Billy Stritch, Chris Potter, Freddie Bryant, Natalie Douglas and many others. He has also been featured throughout Scandinavia, Europe and the US as a side-man and with his own groups. Currently on Mondays, he plays with Billy Stritch backing up Jim Caruso's "Cast Party" and had a recent two week run at one of New York's premiere cabarets, Feinstein's with Tony Award winner Christine Ebersole.

Steve is the recipient of numerous scholarships and awards. He received a scholarship from the 1990 Milt Hinton Scholarship Fund Competition sponsored by the International Society of Bassists and was selected as a semi-finalist in the 1997 Theloneous Monk International Jazz Bass Competition.

A dedicated pedagogue, Steve currently teaches bass and piano at the American Institute of Guitar(link:www.aiguitar.com) and has taught at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music for the BCM Jazz Vocal Workshop. He has studied privately with John Clayton, Charlie Haden, Mike Richmond, Rusty White and jazz piano with Tony Gulizia.

To date, Steve has released one CD as a leader entitled Presence. This CD features Chris Potter(tenor), Dave Stryker(guitar), Tony Moreno(drums) and has received unanimously positive reviews. As a side-man, he has made multiple side-man appearances including: Judy Bady's "Black Bird", Tsutomu Nakai's "Minetta", Tom Larson's "Flashback", Jeffrey Burr's "Bright Blue" and many others.

Steve continues to perform, teach, record and compose in the New York area.
